Other Worlds: Whale Middle Section

Things are moving along. Just finished the middle section last night but I think it needs some tweaks...

There's a lot of work to be done, but it goes fast when you have help

The whale is moving along nicely. Just finished the tail section and I'm happy with the way it looks.

Whale Studies

I'm getting started on some tests for the whale. I'm trying out different textures and lines for the whale.

Moon is Finished

The moon is finished. I'm very happy with it. Its not so much the earths moon as it is a moon of another world. Maybe its the place where all the other stuff, the other images happen. I still have to finish the blue area around it and to do its border, but the main work is done.

Moon Studies

I'm getting going on the moon. These are large studies. I'm learning to work fast. The paint is open for only a few hours so there is not a whole lot of time to get things done. Doing these big ones really helps to get a rhythm going for the night.

This is a smaller study that turned out quite nice, lots of variety in the textures.

A-748. A version of the moon.

King West Magazine Feature

Karen von Hahn is a widely published writer in Toronto. She wrote a weekly column in the Globe & Mail's Style section for almost ten years, and now keeps up a faboulous blog she's called Noticed: trends in the art of consumption, which I highly recommend. She currently writes a weekly column in The Toronto Star called Style Czar, and has been a regular contributor to More, Fashion, En Route, and House and Home magazines.

Karen has been brought in as the editor of King West magazine, and for the second issue she's included an article that highlights my work and also my time here on Duncan Street. (I've been in my studio for twenty-five years now, which is pretty unusual for downtown Toronto. I've been lucky.) The article was given a nice two-page spread and was well laid out, and was really well-written by Kateri Lantheir.

TO Live with Culture

Christopher Jones is a cultural development officer with the city of Toronto, as well as a journalist, graphic designer and owner of the blog StyleNorth. He recently wrote about me and my work for a Toronto blog called TO Live with Culture.

It's a well written and enthusiastic article. I was surprised and impressed at the scope of Chris' piece. He was quite interested in my log books of the formulas and systems I work with in my paintings, which is something that is not too frequently considered.
