Installing at the Barnicke

Some photos from today's install at the Barnicke.

We've wrapped the walls in blue tiles.

The works are floor to ceiling and corner to corner.

Almost all of the paintings from the Other Worlds show are up at the Barnicke.

Christopher Regimbal is the Exhibition Project Coordinator at the Barnicke. Fabulous support, all that was needed was there. Many thanks.

What a fantastic install crew. They were a godsend for someone (me!) who had underestimated how much work there was to be done. Many many thanks. It gone done in time because of them. Left to right Corrie Jackson, Jessica Valentin, Alana Leprich, and my super-assistant Sarah Elizabeth McCaw.

'Other Worlds' installation in Halifax

I'm in Halifax installing the 'Other Worlds' exhibition at Dalhousie Art Gallery.

We just finished thanks to the great help from the team here. Peter Dykuis and Corinna Ghaznavi are the curators of the show, and Peter is also the director of the gallery here. He's been a real support during the final days when the crunch was on.

 Wes Johnston adjusting the lighting on the figure. Its a tricky job because of the size of the works and the glare but he handled it nicely. Besides gallery assistant, Wes also handles communication and outreach at the gallery.

Robin Metcalf, director of the St. Marys University gallery dropped by to chat and preview the show.

Talking with Sym Corrigan who handles communication and design for the gallery. Sym will design the catalog for the show, I'm looking forwards to it.

Thats Michele Gallant, prepator and registar for the gallery. There was a lot to do and a tight schedule for the install, but we finished with time to spare and it looks fantastic. Many thanks to Michele.

Robert Mclaughlin Gallery installation photos

Here are the final installation shots of the RMG "Other Worlds" exhibition. A difficult shoot because of the size of the works but Michael Cullen did a great job. Some nice detail shots that show the texture of the piece.

Available works at the studio show and sale

I'm having a show and sale of my blue and white panel paintings at my studio on Duncan St. I hope you will get a chance to drop by and have a look and a drink. I've recently switched to working on paper, so these will be the last panel paintings for some time. Friday Dec 2  5 - 9pm, Sat & Sun  2 - 6pm. See you there!

Canadian Art online review

Richard Rhodes wrote a very incisive review of the 'Other Worlds' show at the McLaughlin. I'm really impressed, its a great take on the work, have a look here. Richard has a incredibly deep understanding of what is essential to the art experience. He is an absolute treasure in the Canadian art world.

"the images are fixed and formal and sign-like, akin to the hieroglyphs of an Egyptian tomb; in Walker’s case, a planetary tomb seems more relevant. He has made a work where time comes measured in eons and contemporary painting is best seen in the light of cave painting."
